I took a small (3 GB) FAT32 partition that contains nothing critical, and it's now /mnt/win_f under Linux (both Mandriva 2008.0 and Ubuntu 7.10), and F: under both real and virtual W2K. That was easier than I expected. I'll settle for "good enough" security instead of going paranoid.
