jim, thanks for the help. It seems the install did it all as I was hoping. For the rest on the list my question on irc was, I have a dual-boot laptop with linux (slackware) and winxp. I wanted to install a different distro (kubuntu) and was not sure if I had to uninstall lilo first. In the past I used fdisk /mbr or fixmbr. But the install did it all for me and put in entries for linux and windows.
thanks again john Jim Doherty wrote: > Hello, > > In response to a question on irc, here's the entries provided by my > distro (Unbuntu 7.10) > > title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic > root (hd0,0) > kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic > root=UUID=6ddd9050-3f6c-4ba0-bf37-2acb36e77bd0 ro quiet splash > initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic > quiet > > title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic (recovery mode) > root (hd0,0) > kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic > root=UUID=6ddd9050-3f6c-4ba0-bf37-2acb36e77bd0 ro single > initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic > > along with the comments from the top of the file which includes an > example for windows.
