In response to a question on irc,  here's the entries provided by my
distro (Unbuntu 7.10)

 title           Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic

along with the comments from the top of the file which includes an
example for windows.    You can check the man page for grub,  but it is
pretty well certain that an install will run grub-install to install
grub on the master boot record.
