Greetings. Someone asked if it's possible to flash the BIOS using Linux. As I said I have not yet done this, but I found the following packages in Debian related to the subject:
anon7:~# apt-cache search flash BIOS amideco - Decompress flashfiles equipped with an AMI BIOS awardeco - Decompress flashfiles equipped with an AWARD BIOS flashrom - Universal BIOS/ROM/flash programming utility phnxdeco - Decompress flashfiles equipped with a PHOENIX BIOS anon7:~# apt-cache show flashrom ... Description: Universal BIOS/ROM/flash programming utility Flashrom is a universal flash programming utility for ROM/flash chips (e.g. in DIP or PLCC packaging). It can be used to flash BIOS/firmware images for example -- be it proprietary BIOS images or LinuxBIOS images. It can also be used to read the current existing BIOS/firmware from a flash chip. The LinuxBIOS web page for the package: http://linuxbios.org/Flashrom KNOW what you're doing for SURE before trying to flash the BIOS. And if if you do try flashing the BIOS from Linux, write about the results to the list. Good luck. -- Chris -- Chris Knadle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
