Found something else in the Linux kernel specific to flashing the BIOS on Dell
machines. I just happened to have been configuring a Linux kernel when I
came across the CONFIG_DELL_RBU option [Processor type and features ->
Firmware Drivers -> BIOS update support for DELL systems vis sysfs] and I
read the help.

In the Linux kernel source has a document /Documentation/dell_rbu.text which
describes how to use a specific kernel driver to update a Dell BIOS either
locally or remotely after getting the appropriate Dell BIOS image (.hdr
file). It looks like the BIOS update can be done by copying the file to a
particular location in /sys/class/firmware, although there's a hint that some
other utility is needed to tell the BIOS to use the newly flashed image.

There are also other hints included in the file; one states that at
http://support.dell.com you can find info on OpenManage and Dell Update
packages (DUP) -- the other says that Limbsmbios can be used to update the
BIOS on Dell systems http://linux.dell.com/libsmbios/

Anyway I happen to come across it so I wanted to pass that along.
