My home directory on my work system seems to have gotten completely messed up, to the point that it takes a while for my own account to come up, and selecting "Quit" takes 2-3 minutes (yes, minutes) for the dialogue to come up to select whether I want to log off, reboot, shutdown, etc. As a test I created another user, and that one responds much faster. Also, once I've logged in the performance for that account is horribly slow (and it isn't just because I'm running Blotus Notes; it's dog slow even without that running).
I'd like to create a completely clean home directory, and then slowly move in the essential items one by one from a backed-up old home directory. I'm presuming it should be enough to make a copy of /etc/skel to /home/username, and chown the entire directory to username:username. Any other things I should be doing? _______________________________________________ Mid-Hudson Valley Linux Users Group http://mhvlug.org http://mhvlug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mhvlug Upcoming Meetings (6pm - 8pm) MHVLS Auditorium Dec 5 - Open Source Show and Tell Jan 2 - TBD Feb 6 - DBUS Mar 5 - Setting up a platform-independent home/small office network using Linux
