MHVLUG is proud to announce our March 2008 meeting: Wearable Linux Computing.

Greg Priest-Dorman will present: Memories DRAMs Reflections, 30 years
of body worn electronics.

What started as experimentation with medical devices and adaptive
equipment in the mid 70's evolved by the early 90's into a general
purpose linux wearable. Daily use has lead to a life lived in an
intimate relationship with machines and altered perceptions of just
where I end and they begin.

A brief survey of the evolution of "Herbert" will followed by an
examination of:
- The way ubiquity effects how the computer is used
- The hardware and software that make wearing a computer practical
- The trade offs that help make it affordable
A selection HMDs, input devices and vests will be available to see and
time permiting, try.

*NOTE VENUE CHANGE*

This meeting will take place at Computer Science Classroom as Vassar
College, in Poughkeepsie, NY, on Wednesday, March 5, from 6pm -
8pm. A nice map to the location, including parking can be found here:
https://wiki.cs.vassar.edu/people/priestdo/tips/find_cs

Before the main talk we will do a series of lightning talks, each 5
minutes or less, on something Open Source related. It could be a fun
new program, a book, a blog post, or really anything you think the
wider MHVLUG community would find some interest in. People that have
emailed me in advance, you're all on. Time permitting, we'll also
take impromptu lightning talks from the floor.

If you are planning on using the projector for your lightning talk,
please arrive at 5:30, to ensure we can work out any kinks with the
projector prior to the meeting.

This is the 5 year aniversary of MHVLUG. To celebrate this event
there will be cake after the main program. Come join us for the
cellebration!

I also have 2 Ubuntu 7.10 books to give away, courtesy of Prentice
Hall.

All meetings are *free* and open to the public, and everyone from all
levels of expertise and interest in Linux and Open Source Software are
encouraged to attend (and bring a friend or two)! In addition, after
each meeting ends everyone is welcome to join in on an informal dinner
gathering at the Palace Diner (http://www.thepalacediner.com/) on
Washington St. This is a great opportunity to interact with members
of the local Linux community, and a forum where questions and comments
are strongly welcomed.

For more details, please see http://mhvlug.org.

Hope to see you all there!

        -Sean
