I think Joe was being sarcastic and/or ironic (I suspect Mike was too,
in his response -- I'm just trying to head off a flame war by those who
took their words literally). Sure, it will likely fail, or at least,
never attain the penetration of FB, etc. (unless a large corporation
such as G**gle takes it under its wing and pushes it). If people want to
donate money to such a project, let them. Evidently they had not found
other FLOSS projects compelling enough to direct their money towards, so
it's probably not a loss to any other FLOSS project.
