Their money.  They can do whatever the hell they feel like with it.

Besides, this linux this is a fad, that college kid is totally going to
fail writing his own kernel, he should stick to BSD.

Besides, Linux's problem is not longer simplicity of use.  It doesn't need to 
be engineered.  It's problem is that because everything is free, there is no 
profit in anyone to market it.
