But that shouldn't rule out smartphones or any "device" necessarily.
You can still keep all the data in the device itself or a PC/Mac/Linux
box and sync between the two.

Personally I can't imagine keeping this sort of data out of a web
service... it's great to write a reminder on your phone while you're
in bed and have it show up on your desktop at work the next day. Saved
my butt a ton of times! Perhaps I'm too forgetful to start with :)
