MHVLUG is proud to announce our December 2010 meeting:
.... IBM's Open Client Deployment

Join John Walicki, IBM Open Client Architect, for an update on how IBM I/T is
embracing Open Standards and Open Source to reduce the inhibitors to broader
Linux adoption.  John will share IBM's move to Firefox and modern browsers
to accelerate the adoption of cloud computing and HTML5.  He will also share
IBM's strategy to switch IBM to the Open Document Format based IBM Lotus
Symphony.

John Walicki is part of the IBM Senior Technical Staff and architect for the
Open Client Initiative where he leads the internal IBM Open Computing
strategy.  He also leads the open standards based Browser Independence
deployment of Firefox within IBM and the Document Interchange strategy to
switch IBM to the Open Document Format based IBM Lotus Symphony. John is a
manager in the IBM CIO Office Global Workforce & Web Process Enablement
organization. He leads the Messaging and Collaboration strategy for IBM I/T
and is responsible for the global strategy and deployment of Lotus Notes and
Lotus Sametime .  His global development and integration team is working to
lower the costs of deployment of an enterprise enabled Linux Client. John
previously was a manager in the Watson Information Services Department at the
IBM T.J. Watson Research Center.  In addition to 20 years of IBM experience,
John holds a BS Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University.

.... Lightning Talks

 * MHVLUG Officer Elections - Sean Dague
 * xwax: open-source vinyl emulation software - Matthias Johnson

MHVLUG Office Election will take place at 6:15 sharp.  All present will be
able to vote.

Before the main talk we will do a series of lightning talks (up to 3), each
10 minutes or less, on something Open Source related. It could be a fun new
program, a book, a blog post, or really anything you think the wider MHVLUG
community would find some interest in. People that have posted their talk
subject to the website in advance have priority. Time permitting, we'll also
take impromptu lightning talks from the floor.

If you are planning on using the projector for your lightning talk, please
arrive at 5:30 to ensure we can work out any kinks with the projector prior
to the meeting.

The meeting will take place at
Mid Hudson Library System Auditorium
on Wednesday, December 1st at 6 pm.

All meetings are *free* and open to the public, and everyone from all levels
of expertise and interest in Linux and Open Source Software are encouraged to
attend (and bring a friend or two)! After each meeting ends everyone is
welcome to join in on an informal dinner gathering at the Palace Diner [1] on
Washington St. This is a great opportunity to interact with members of the
local Linux community, and a forum where questions and comments are strongly
welcomed.
