At the last meeting there was some interest in my new toy Wouxun
KG-UVD1P<http://kd2aku.wordpress.com/2011/07/29/my-2m70cm-ht-radio/> I
have been working with the creator of KG-UV
Commander<http://www.kc8unj.com/kguv.html> Jim Mitchell
KC8UNJ <http://www.kc8unj.com/> to get it to work under Wine. We have
been trading emails and the beta version he last sent me now writes to the
radio! Which means two things, one Jim is a great guy assisting in getting
his software to work under Wine, but also this gives us Linux foke access to
an affordable HT radio ( for those of us with licenses).

But.... if this has sparked your interested in Amateur Radio there is a
local talk coming up on Monday Aug 29th:

The QSY Society will present a program entitled “Introduction to Ham Radio”
> at the East Fishkill Community Library, Route 376, Hopewell Junction, NY on
> Monday, August 29th at 7:00 p.m. The program will consist of a short
> presentation, some informative/interactive displays, a 100 watt SSB station
> on 20 meters, and a QRP CW station on 40 meters. Those QSY members
> participating are Fred KC2QFR, Tony W1ZMB, Scott W2NTV and Stan WB2LQF. The
> Orange County Amateur Radio Club will send a representative to answer
> questions about their upcoming free licensing class which begins on
> September 24th. This program targets ages 10 through adult. Publicity and
> refreshments are being handled by the Library.
