Trying to answer this question, I want a list of what a person needs to
know/understand to know "Core Java"
That is variables, conditionals, manipulation, etc. Not edge-use cases
say for AWT.
With a set of Core Java features and functions, I can then start laying
out framework for a study group for people interested in studying
Java/Javascript.
First off, you need to get it out of your head that Javascript has
anything to do with Java. :) I think my favorite quote there is: Java is
to Javascript, as Car is to Carpet.
Thus I have collected these links so far:
http://www.freejavaguide.com/corejava.htm
http://commonsware.com/blog/2010/08/02/java-good-parts-version.html

Parts of http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/
If you feel pretty comfortable with modern OO programming (interfaces,
inheritance, protection levels, exception handling), and just need to
know syntax, the java tutorial bundled with the language is probably
fine. Back in the day (and the day was a long time ago, as java is 16
years old now), I learned it from that more or less.
If you are not comfortable with OO, it's probably worth finding a book
that will walk you through that.
