What I do others think is crazy and others do as I so you decide. I have a
m-audio 1010lt which is "ok" as an analog to digital converter. I also
have a native instruments audio 4dj but neither of these are $40. You
could probably just use any old sound card if ripping lossfully, maybe not
an onboard as I have experienced them making digital noise. This is the
part that gets "crazy" but all im after is one good rip and the vinyl goes
to the trash afterwards. I get a dishwashing bin and fill it with warm
water and dawn dish detergent, not too much soap just normal dish washing
amount. The water I fill to the bottom of the record label when the record
stands perpendicular to the bottom of the bin. I rotate the record and
gently clean it with a new sponge or soft cloth. I actually leave the
record wet and slightly soapy and put it on a spare 1200 technic turntable
and spray with more water so the needle floats over some of the crackle. I
rip as flac then make mp3 from that if needed using audacity. Do all your
pop removal manually NO filters / plugins. It will take out so much of the
real audio. See bittorrent / scene release rules and procedures for other
help. I rip all my electronic music in this manner.
