I thought you were an AMD guy. Regarding virtualization capabilities, that was a main criterion for my build. I went *way* out of my way to get a CPU and mobo that supported IOMMU. (Intel counterpart is something like VT-d). I have *no* idea if IOMMU would be useful to me, but I made sure to get it. As fate would have it, I put off getting a new HDD, temporarily using an old 80-GB HDD from an old PC. Then the Thailand floods hit and HDD prices skyrocketed. So no virtualization for me for the time being. Incidentally, I appreciated your tip about VirtualBox under Ubuntu. I plan to try KVM under Fedora and VirtualBox under Ubuntu (once I get a large HDD). I'm curious why you state that for your single Win8-Preview virtual machine that dual core is inadequate. How did you determine this? (I have dual- core. I didn't think more than that would be needed for a single virtual machine.). You can get lots of examples of AMD and Intel builds at Anandtech Guides: http://www.anandtech.com/tag/guides _______________________________________________ Mid-Hudson Valley Linux Users Group http://mhvlug.org http://mhvlug.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mhvlug Upcoming Meetings (6pm - 8pm) Vassar College Apr 4 - An Intro to Chef May 2 - Git Jun 6 - June 2012 Meeting
