I am trying out a Windows 8 computer while mine is being fixed and it's HORRIBLE. I thought that I could fall back to to Windows 7 appearance and I can't. It looks like it leaves programs open in the background instead of closing them which would tax the memory of a slower system. I can't tell if programs are minimized or closed. It has no start menu.
Just put Mate in and it will work like Gnome 2.24 did.
