It is if you don't want to void the Warranty.
Well, seeing as the most I can afford for computers is free
hand-me-downs, the warranties are already expired anyway.
The catch is that the IdeaPad P500 didn't come with any reinstallation media

to a VM directly somehow.
That's exactly what I'm talking about.
http://www.vmware.com/go/getconverter has a utility for making a virtual
machine from an installed system. And in my opinion on the lack of a
reinstall disk *must* mean the software is pirated, and the vendor can
be turned in to the SPA. Of course, I'll accept them providing a
utility to create the reinstall disk(s) from a disk image. But you have
to wonder what sort of cheapass bastards can't afford a 5-cent DVD
(figuring their wholesale price) along with the system?
Back when I was a kid, Mad Magazine used to do these satirical spreads
on just *how* poor a job some store/company could do on customer
service. Seems corporations these days have taken the *wrong*
inspiration from them.
