I once ran Ubuntu from a thumb drive to get data off of a screwed up Windows install, but that's not the right one if you are looking for a small distro. I am not sure that I would install Ubuntu on a thumb drive and then boot a Windows computer from a thumb drive just to get out of using Windows (you could). There used to be a distro of Linux that fit on a floppy disk but that might not still be possible due to kernal upgrades.

The first couple that come to mind are DSL (damn small Linux) and puppy Linux
which can be run entirely from a thumb drive.

A friend asked what is the best RealTime Lightweight Linux Distro? I

1st thing thought of Video Digital Recorders which use a Linux distro so
did some searching and found "There are many free DVR applications
available for Linux, each released as free and open source software:
MythTV, VDR, LinuxMCE, XBMC

Any experience with these or any other RealTime Lightweight Linux
Distros?

Thanks
