_Presentation Title_: "Changing the Foundation: The Impact of
Multicore Architectures on Software"
_Place_: Coykendall Science Building (CSB) Auditorium
_Date____and Time_: Thursday, February 14, 2013, starting at 4:30 PM*
_Abstract_: Computer venders have introduced two dramatic changes in
their architectures. First, the increase in clock frequency we have
experienced over the past decades is no longer present. Second, there
is an exponentially increasing number of processor cores on a
chip. These changes present two unprecedented challenges to the
software stack. Namely, how does the software 1) deal with the
stagnation of single-threaded performance, and 2) utilize the
additional capabilities provided by multiple cores on a chip? In this
talk, I will present these issues and argue why these challenges
present great opportunities for software optimization and suggest some
approaches to address these fundamental problems.
Was anybody able to get to this? (I had pneumonia.) Would anyone be
willing to summarize this, post handouts, or basically give me a general
idea of what he had to say? Thanks!
Adam
