I have gotten the same behavior using 12.10, but the HD is LUKS encrypted
so I can't get to console or anything.
In my case it's defiantly after I change hardware, so I was thinking bad
interaction with the TPM chip or ACPI?
I also get it 100% of the time when the laptop suspends.

Question is how do you Google "blank screen" without having to sift through
millions of hits?
