Was wondering what others experience with Archlinux is?

I recently switched to using Archlinux on my desktop as I've found myself spending way too much time with Ubuntu creating specialized compiles for PHP, MariaDB, and more.

In the end, I felt that if I was spending that much time anyway, I'd rather use a distro that is more geared towards it. In addition, I've found that whenever I have odd video or sound problems, I end up on an arch linux wiki that clearly details solutions and then I have to translate from 'arch' the 'ubuntu'.

The biggest downside with the arch method is the compile time for many packages. It's fine for my desktop, but I'm not sure if some of the older systems I have in use can use arch effectively.
