I suspect the problem is less the different video cards and more the dual-card-single-output nature of the nivida/intel hybrids. Xinerama and xrandr will happy take any combination of displays and glue them together - I've even glued an intel and a usb2 video output side by side. unfortunately I don't know anything about the hybrid stuff.
