THE GATES ARE BROKEN DOWN!!!!!

Apparently there is supposed to be something in a Linux install that disables some feature in the bios designed to protect poor little Windows.

I installed Unity and it installed perfectly. Then I installed Mate and it installed perfectly.

I remember hearing that distros tend to be focused on the desktop that they primarily use and and provide the other desktops by adding and subtracting things. So the other desktops can be step children.

This is apparently true of UBUNTU. And because I use long term support editions, the over sight of code in might not be fixed for year.

I tried to put Ubuntu Mate back into my laptop. It had been
there until a week ago when I decided to try Windoze. I have
repented of my sins and my computer needs an angel of healing.
I put Windows 8.1 back in it and it worked as well as Windows is
going to work. It was because my wife was taking a course in
    microsoft word.

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite 55D-85308. It came with
Windows 8.1. The Bios was not upgraded since the last time it ran
    Linux perfectly.

Ubuntu Mate when in without a hitch, except that I noticed that
the install didn't know that Windows was in the computer. Secure
boot was disabled. Windows Quick start was disabled. It would not
    let me reinstall the bios.

When I tried to boot up in CSM I got

    PXE_MOF: exiting PXE ROM

reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in
selected boot device and press a key.

When I tried to boot up in UEFI I got the message

Reboot and seclet proper boot device and press a key

    Further

    1) Kill disk would not run to zero fill the hard drive. I tried
two different CD's that were the edition for Windows 8

HELP!!!!!1 CYBERSPACE IS NOT RESPONDING AND TELLING ME TO "PLEASE
WAIT." A 66 YEAR OLD GUY DOESN'T WANT TO WAIT TOO LONG FOR
    ANYTHING!!!

What can I do? What CAN I do?

It reinstalls Windows perfectly so I don't think that I have a
    hardware problem.

If I survive this I am going to run to the zoo and hug every
    penguin there.
