Where I live GPS map service added to a cell phone adds $10 a month to the bill even without voice guidance. ----- Original Message ----- From: Larry Alster To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ; [email protected] Sent: Saturday, March 15, 2008 8:05 AM Subject: RE: Another GPS question & Phone use, as well.
Blue Tooth is a wireless standard and any phone that is Bluetooth works with any Bluetooth headset. My GPS "Usually" tells you in time to make a turn. You can get pretty good GPS/Cellphones these days and kill 2 birds with one stone. When my contract is up in June with my current carrier I'm thinking of switching to AT&T and getting a Tilt Phone. It does cell/internet/GPS/voice dialing etc etc Larry White Knight 1991 Crystal White #99 CSP Silver Bullet 1992 Silverstone #17 SM2 FM I+ Turbo Honey B 1992 Sunburst Yellow #99 SM2L JR Supercharger Whooosh 2004 Titanium Mazdaspeed MX-5 LowCountry Miata http://www.lowcountrymiataclub.net Masters Miata RAGS 074 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, March 15, 2008 11:04 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Another GPS question & Phone use, as well. Not intending to steal the thread, but as one who has typically used paper maps or (sometimes awful) MapQuest instructions, and has also been stuck, broken down, in the middle of nowhere at the time, I've been considering a GPS unit and a cell phone. Do the GPS units REALLY provide voice direction in time to allow you to make turns or find exits? As I don't know how Bluetooth works (is this a trademark for a particular brand, a licensed technology, or a generic term for Hands-Free?), I'm wondering If I have to buy a particular type of cell phone to get hands-free technology for in-car use. I don't presently have a cell phone, having prefered the device for emergency use only. What is the smart thing to do? Do I get a phone the plugs into a GPS unit? Do I get a phone that plugs into a stereo? Do I need a lot of accessories to get this to work? Can I get a stereo that includes the phone? Are there any GPS/Stereo/Phone All-in-one units available and are they recommended or just ridiculously expensive? I like quality and practicality. All non-profane suggestions are welcome.
