I dunno.  Call me cheap, but if it ain't broke...  I think the smart-money 
answer would be to buy spares and take them to the track with you.  This way, 
if you do start to see a problem it's a quick matter to deal with it.

FWIW, I've always had ample warning that I needed new wires; typically an 
off-idle stumble at low throttle openings is my clue.
