Before you bother with rotor swaps etc why not just get some good aggressive
aftermarket pads. Contact Carbotech and get something like their autocross pad
or talk to him about your wants and needs.

As for looking down from the top, with the turbo you see nothing!!!

Agree with your assessment of the cars. We have 29k on Janice’s and other than
oil changes it has had nothing done to it. We have a Cobb Stage 2 on it and it
runs like a beast. Mileage sucks but we knew that when we bought it.

Haha... It takes a minute or two... look STRAIGHT down from above and follow
the wires (that's what I did...)

I have to say that my base 2005 Legacy is a very practical car. Lots of room
without being too bulky, MPG that has improved from 23/24 to about 27,
relatively QUIET (much appreciated after diriving my noisy Miata for so long)
and durable interior, low initial purchase price, and tenacious grip in bad
weather.

It's not really tossable, but it handles well enough if you don't push it...

The only thing that really takes getting used to is the lack of mid-range
torque on this non-turbo model, but the select shift auto trans is fun to use
and allows one to wind through the lower gears to make up for that.

Although I haven't driven one, I expect that the Legacy GT with turbo must be a
pretty nice car (except for the silly scoop.) The WRX and STi models may be
"practical" performance sedans. I can see why so many people enjoy subarus
these days.

A few years ago I almost bught a BMW 330 XI... The dealership didn't go to get
the car over the weekend as they'd promises (it was at another dealer), so when
I called to pick it up they didn't have it, nor did they notify me of a
delay... So, I skipped that purchase and bought the Subaru at half the price.

I'm sure the BMW would have been more fun, overall, but I can't complain about
the Subaru's quality, usefulness, or value. It has NEVER been in the shop for
mechanical recall or repair.

My one complain: The front brakes should have been better. They WORK well,
but they don't feel as though they're big enough for the car's weight. I'll
need brakes soon, so I'll upgrade the pad material to something more
aggressive. I don't know what's available yet for these cars... It has 16"
wheels; I wonder if the GT model's larger front rotors will fit.
