We're talking MS here and the thing does have a built in boost cut. Turn it down a bit. No telling how many turns equals what. Just turn 1/2 turn at a time go out and run in 5th or 6th gear at 3k and slap the throttle to the floor. By 4k you'll have full boost.
The AIT sensor is in the TB elbow and the wires were a problem on some cars when they were stretched tightly to the OEM TB elbow and rubbed through and shorted. Installing the FM kit takes away the strain and I bet Lloyd would have seen bare wires. The 60 psi boost/no vacuum gauge belongs on a Diesel not a MSM :) Larry White Knight 1991 Crystal White #99 CSP Silver Bullet 1992 Silverstone #17 SM2 FM I+ Turbo Honey B 1992 Sunburst Yellow #99 SM2L JR Supercharger Whooosh 2004 Titanium Mazdaspeed MX-5 LowCountry Miata http://www.lowcountrymiataclub.net Masters Miata RAGS 074 -----Original Message----- From: Lloyd Broussard [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, July 19, 2008 4:01 PM To: Larry Alster; 'Miatapower' Subject: RE: Bucking after FM intake and O2 signal modifier install I'll have him turn down the boost controller and see what happens. The boost cut was one of the ides that I had in mind. I'm still waiting to hear from him about the CEL? Hopefully it will shed some light on the situation. Unfortunately the boost gauge that's in the car is a cheap-o unit that shows no vacuum and goes up to 60psi. So it was pretty hard dialing in it perfectly. That's why I left it at 10, as I was getting that result consistently. Any idea how much boost is add/subtracted from a full turn? And I told him to spend a few extra dollars and get a good vacuum/boost gauge. The O2 clamp is a brand new 2 wire setup. There is only the pot screw for adjustments, there's no vacuum switch. I don't really think the O2 clamp is the cause of the issue, I mentioned it since it was installed at the same time. Thanks again! -----Original Message----- From: Larry Alster [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, July 19, 2008 2:15 PM To: 'Lloyd Broussard'; 'Miatapower' Subject: RE: Bucking after FM intake and O2 signal modifier install Your hitting the boost cut which happens when the car is at WOT in higher gears and makes more than about 10.5 psi boost. You need to set the boost controller lower since during the day it's going to make less boost than when it's cooler at night. My rules is to set the boost to 9-9.5 psi boost in the warm weather. As for the CEL???? As for the O2 sensor, if you have the 4 wire unit you need to not only set the pot but set the vacuum switch. It is in the directions. http://www.flyinmiata.com/support/instructions/ecu/O2%20pressure%20switch.pd f Step 5 If you have the newer 2 wire unit I think it is adjustment free. The intake side of the FM intake was installed last weekend. The car is stock besides the boost gauge that's inside the car. We dialed the boost controller to 10lbs, and it seemed that the car was happy. Last night the owner got a check engine light and now the car is bucking at WOT. I haven't had a chance to put my hands on the car to check it over. The owner told me that the bucking happens only at WOT, not at the transition into boost. So I'm thinking the O2 clamp may be working fine. He says it feels like the car is hitting the fuel redline cut off, but he's not at red line. We didn't adjust the pot on the O2 clamp, since there isn't anything about doing so in the instructions, and I believe it's preset by FM prior to shipping. The owner does not have a scan gauge, so he's going to swing by AutoZone so they can pull the code. That will at least give us a starting place. Any ideas or places to start looking?
