If you have the FM pistons, then yes, you already have the skirts coated, this
helps the break-in process and also reduces friction in the long run.

A tri-coating is essentially a thermal barrier coating on the crown (like you
suggested the Swain Tech's Gold barrier, a Dry-film on skirts (which you
already have from FM), as well as a oil shedding property coating on the
underside of the piston (known to reduce knock by allowing oil to shedd faster
and therefore allowing it to cool more efficiently).
Swain does not list this on their site, but they offer it for Rods, I am sure
you can call in and ask them to do the underside of your pistons when they do
your crown.

I hear great things about Swain... my STi pistons were coated by them.

Not sure what you mean by Tri-coating, but I am leaning towards Swain Tech's
gold coat thermal barrier coating:

Which pistons are you wanting to coat and who do you have in mind for the job?

I will highly recommend you get a Tri-coating, not just the crown as there are

many other benefits that prolong longevity.

Is it ok to ceramic coat forged piston domes given they expand and contract much

more than cast?

Has anyone here done it?
