Mazda does not take complaints on the MSM very well. Unfortunately, they
ignore most of them. I have complained to Mazda Engineers several times
about the MSM. They basically knew several things are problems, but with
limited production they were not going to do anything about it. It does not
hurt to try, but I would not expect anything out of it.

That said, some dealers are better than others. The one we use in San
Antonio is very friendly to aftermarket modifications.

Fuel pump failures on MSMs are a known problem, there probably is a bulletin
on it.

He needs to go higher up the food chain at the dealer, asking to talk to the
regional rep. If that doesn't work, call the customer complaint line in the
owner's manual.

I got this on my local Miata list. I told him to check out Magnusson-Moss.
Do any of you have any tips I can give to this guy to get the dealer to
realize they're smoking crack?

Subject: [eGCMC] Fuel Pump and King's Mazda

Does anyone know of a good place to purchase an aftermarket fuel pump. Any
ideas on which ones are good, and which ones to stay away from?

I'm asking this because my MSM started getting harder to start a couple
weeks ago, and then threw a code "lean at idle." last Friday.

I took it to King's Mazda, told them that I though it was the fuel pump, and
left it for them to look at.

They came back and said "Yes it's a defective fuel pump, but your
aftermarket intake MAY have contributed to it, so it's not covered under
warrenty. That will be $800 to replace."

They were pretty crappy about it too.

I'm never doing business there again.
