Jalopnik was the place for coverage, actually.

There *was* an actually competitive Miata, the "FrankenMiata", which had
an even more ghetto setup than we did. They took the stock exhaust
manifold, flipped it upside down, and mounted the turbo on top of it:

They set the second fastest lap, came in 4th overall, and I think won a
class award.
