Hi all, I haven't been active on the list for some time. You long-timers will remember me from early FMII tuning stuff and a black '92 that I had a lot of fun with.
This is an update with some "For Sale" information. I have received a lot of enjoyment and help from the list over the years and wented to give listers first shot. Well, that '92 went to someone in Michigan in '07, after I purchased Gary Fischman's old and well-known Miata named "Max" and some of its story is here: http://miata.net/motm/2007/max.html Since that MOTM article, I think I've put about 300 miles on the car. I moved, my wife got a job and now we've got another kid on the way. One kid = Miata is an option. Two kids = no Miata option. In fact, with our Black Lab we've even outgrown my Forester XT... So, I hunted up an old LT1 Buick Roadmaster for family hauling duties. It'll be a quick sleeper, but this list is not about huge old wagons. My busy life has not affected just my own Miata, though... through seeing the fun that I had with my '92, my dad bought a '02 SE with mileage somewhere in the mid-teens in Texas and brought it up to Ohio. The car is absolutely as-new. Except for the superchargers. See, we first thought that a bit more power would be enough. So, we added a BR-modified JR Supercharger to the car. It worked, but really wasn't nearly sufficient. Then we bought an Uber 3. That was sometime in 2005, I believe. We are 95% through the Uber installation, but time to work on the car is non-existant and dad's now looking at getting a used Z06 for speed duties. So, as it is now, I've got two Miatas to sell. The first is "Max." Of the scores of Miatas built, this car is one of the few that are specifically known by a large number of people in the Miata community. This is the only car that has been Miata of the Month twice, it is the car that inspired Gary to create Miata.net. It has quite a story and quite a bit of potential. There is no rust on the main body / underbody, only two small (pea-sized) spots on the bottom lip of the trunk lid. It has a fully-built motor, Frank Mowry posted a bit about the engine build-up on the list. It has a fully-updated FMII setup, shocks/springs/bars/torsen/larger rear discs/HCHTDD/ etc. The list goes on and on. It's not perfect, though. It's got a driver's rear fender that is pushed in a bit and will probably need body work to correct properly. The damage is visible in the MOTM pictures, but it's not a large area. I was going to put fender flares on it, that would cover the area without requiring paint. It also needs a general "finish." I got the car back up too roadworthy shape and drove it as a daily driver for about 3,000 miles and it did (and does) drive perfectly. There is a "dead zone" at about 5800 rpm that I have not begun to diagnose, but I'd figure it's somewhere in the ECU map that needs tuned. And it is FAST. I've got the boost at about 18psi and it is just silly fun. Really, really silly fun. Dry road, straight ahead second gear wheelspin at 40mph fun. For someone looking to finish up a Spring time project for little money, this is a great car. I'm looking for somewhere around $5500, which isn't near replacement value. Obviously I have more info, just ask. The second car is a 2002 Silver SE with about 17,000 miles, I believe. It is virtally perfect. The Uber installation is almost finished, we did start the motor and it ran, but the Hydra needs some of the sensors installed, the PS bracetry reinstalled and other minor things. We took our time with this installation and it looks gorgeous. Fuel injector wiring was re-wrapped to look stock, everything looks nice and proper. The car needs about 5 hours of work to be back on the road with the Uber3, but we didn't do the clutch yet, so it's obviously not going to be a long time before the clutch needs to be swapped. We've got whatever FM Happy Meal was sold in 2005 ready to go, we're just not going to do the swap before we sell it. I have no idea where to price this car... unmodified it would be looking like low-teens. With a mostly-installed $5k+ uber? Who knows. This would be a fantastic opportunity for someone, too. As I said, listers get first crack before I get with Gary to get something up on m.net. Hopefully I'm not stepping on any toes by putting a for sale post after this long of a dormancy, but after 10+ years on the power list, I hope y'all don't mind. :) I've got pictures an all that stuff for those that are interested. There's also a silly fast Forester XT that is on the market for those of you looking for a hauler. If there's anything I need to do update the list on, I'll do so and now I'll return you to your regularly scheduled power content.
