In addition, check the heat-sink on the link pcb. The solder joins come loose. 
I could only see it under magnification, so look closely.

If it's a fairly high mileage car, I'd be wiggling the wires going to CAS and 
coils while it's running. The tacho dropping is usually a good indicator that 
one of the wires has fatigued.

I just got my alignment done and on the way home on the express way my car 
started surging and the exhaust got deeper and muffled more. Also, the turbo 
fluttered under boost. My tach dropped to 0 with the engine still running. The 
car shut down and I let it sit for a few minutes and then it ran fine
