How hot is hot to you?? Battery is in the trunk with no ventilation and your charging it so yea it's going to be hot. 14.4 volts shouldn't be a problem charging. The gell cells take a little more voltage than lead acid so 14.4 is spec. Shouldn't be a problem. Lastest and not so greatest.........my alternator seems to be over charging.
