Bill, I heard you but it was too late. I needed this advice when I was
fixing my oil leak 2.5 years ago. The thing still leaks.

Thanks, Les. *Somebody* was listening. Wally, did you replace the front main
or no?

Bill is talking about the O-ring that seals the oil pump to the block. It's
the only thing left. I've seen them leak with the same problem that you
have. Unfortunately, you have to pull the oil pan to pull the pump to get to
the O-ring it, that's why he mentioned it when you were pulling the pan.

Nope. "Only 8k on the rebiuild, why would that be bad?" Yeah, I know.

The only oil seal I see in the FSM goes in the front of the pump, which I
would assume can be removed the same way?.. I can't find anything showing a
seal behind the pump... same thing with the parts diagrams, I don't see
anything behind it, just the $8 one on the front side.. Am I missing
something?

Did you pull the oil pump off and replace the o ring behind it?

9 hours later, still leaks.. fun fun. Ran the car up to temp while engine
still hanging from the hoist, glad we did it. Oil appears at the front
lower, center and one corner of the crank valley. Can't tell if it's the
pan or the main, motor was professionally rebuilt by a reputable shop ~8k
miles ago so would be curious if it was the main but you never know.

So, can the car be safely idled without the crank pulley installed (leaving
the timing gear and key in place and the bolt on the crank to keep the gear
from sliding off)? Trying to see where the oil originates from while
idling, main or pan.. and don't want to redo the pan if we can avoid that
bundle of joy.

Also, when calling a "front main seal", are we actually talking about the
"front oil seal", located in the front of the oil pump, part # 10-602A /
B3C7-10-602A ? I assume so, but want to make sure I'm bitching about the
right part. :) Did a search and that appears correct but want to verify.

Thanks.
