Go to get an eye loupe or a pair of those glasses that are magnifiers and
study the board connections and lands with them and you might find a crack
or bad joint.

I resoldered just the connector pins this morning, ECU didn't reboot on
wiggle test but would when the cover was tapped lightly. So, its out again,
think I'll touch up all joints tonight. I'll be looking for a used board if
this doesn't work I guess.

I was having the same problem for a few months. I finally went crazy and
re-soldered every joint that was not shiny, clean and the correct shape. If
it looked funny in any way it got wicked up and new solder put down. I
redid at least a quarter of the board and the harness connector, going on
four months and not one cut out (knock on wood).

Latest update. I drove into work the other day and rebuilt the wire from the
Link to the Keypad. Also, I re flowed one of the solder points on the keypad
that looked like it might have been a cracked solder joint. When I drove
home that night I had no cut outs. The next day I drove into work and it cut
out once. Then on the way home it did it several times. Today I tried the
wiggle test on all the wires I could think of, and it didn't cut
out.......but it did twice while was just standing there. Something else I
notice was when the Link resets it turns Security back on. Not very
reassuring if the keypad dies out on the road.

At this point my Miata is no longer dependable enough even just to drive to
and from work, let alone taking me and my daughter out on 5k mile road trips
like it has the past 2 summers. We were planing a NE trip this year.

I will try that, but I built a new cable using a round cable that is very
durable using new ends. I don't think the cable is the issue. If I
disconnect it and it still reboots that would rule it out.

keypad cable at both ends. I've seen the connectors fail at both ends and
I've also seen the flat cable's insulation fail where the cable passes under
the ECU's cover.

leaning that way last fall. I am starting to think that the problem is
centering around the connectors to the ECU. If your problem is the same then
taking out your ECU would have reseated the connectors when you reinstalled.
My car was dying continuously when I parked it. I took it for a short drive
after getting the WB02 hooked up and there was no cutting out. It made it
all the way to work yesterday without rebooting.

yell at my passenger to stomp the floor and off we would go again.

We are getting rain for the next few days so I will look at the wiring again
next chance I get.

select any window other than rpm in the keypad and leave it there while
you're driving. If the car cuts out, look at the keypad before you turn the
key off. Is it still in the window where you left it or is it now in rpm? If
rpm window, it means you have rebooted, so start looking at power and
grounds. Wiggle tests can help, as can a multimeter that gives you max/min
measurements so you can drive with the meter on say the 12v supply and then
look at the meter if the car dies to see if you have lost the 12v.

and no cutting out while driving. When I started home after work the ECU

found. I reseated the chip and checked all the connections at the ECU. What
could cause both the hunting for idle and dropping out the ECU causing the
engine to die? I am thinking a ground problem, but I wanted to float this
out to the collective to see if there is some other explanation.
