Unfortunately the signal conditioner in the map sensor box is prone to
failure after many heat cycles.  They are generally repairable though.  Also
the wiring from it to the ECU could be non-functional but that can be tested
just by removing the map box and connecting a 1.5v battery to the knock &
gnd wires (battery minus to gnd) and observing the knock level on the
keypad.
