Crazy stuff, huh? When I first heard about the story by word of mouth,
I pictured a lawn chair with many clusters of colored helium balloons
tied to it. I always wanted to try that as a kid.

Then as I saw live coverage on the Internet, I could see anyone would
be terrified to be in that silver balloon contraption or think someone
might be in it. I'm glad the little boy is safe.

The dad reminds me of the guy on public tv that's all about super
healthy foods - they both have the same hair cut.

Here's an except from our fine local newspaper:

"Balloon boy" dad says he'll answer questions later today; asks media
to put questions in a box on front porch
BY NATE TAYLOR • [email protected] • OCTOBER 17, 2009

The "big announcement" the Heene family said they had for the world
this morning turned out to be no announcement at all.

Shortly after 10 a.m.,Richard Heene, the father of the now
famous "balloon boy" from Fort Collins, walked out of his home to
address the media and said he would like questions for he and his
family to be placed in a card board box.

Heene said he would come back outside at 7:30 tonight to answer the
questions.

He answered only one question about whether his son Falcon's
disappearance on Thursday was a hoax.

"This was absolutely not a hoax," Heene said. "I want your questions
in the box."

Heene placed the box on his front porch before walking back inside.

Heene also said his family doesn’t have cable TV and doesn’t know what
is being said about them in the media. He added he wants time to
review the questions before speaking with the media again.

As Heene walked back to his house, several members of the media
shouted questions that he didn’t answer. One reporter yelled, “Screw
you!” But reporters began to immediately write questions and put them
back in the box.

The media and television trucks continue to fill the Heenes’ southeast
Fort Collins neighborhood. The reporters include members of the media
from Brazil and Australia.

Onlookers also held up signs. One said: “Put Balloon Boy on TV:
America’s Most Wanted.” The other, featuring a poorly-drawn flying
saucer read: “10/15/09 We will never forget.”

Investigators from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office are expected to
interview members of the Heene family again today.

The Coloradoan will cover the 7:30 p.m. press conference and post
details from it. Check back to www.coloradoan.com for more
information.
