Even tho' you & I are only 6 years apart, our dad's are approx. 13 -
14 years apart. My dad didn't get any rock'n'roll, and didn't want to.
My parents used to say (hilarious to me) things like: "Why don't they
take singing lessons?". And of course, I'd be thinking: Because then
it wouldn't be rock'n'roll!

I was totally gone on all the British bands as was most of Cleveland,
including TV/radio. Songs that didn't chart nationally got played here
(for instance: Here Come the Nice by the Small Faces). The Rolling
Stones were on the local Mike Douglas Show, and performed almost all
of their debut LP. But when they came thru town a few months later,
they sold so few tickets for Public Hall that they lost money. The
mayor suggested people not attend, due to the pandemonium/near riot
that ensued when the Beatles played Public Hall. My neighbor won a
radio contest (paint your picture window for Halloween), but when her
prize was a Stones LP, she passed on it. The Stones didn't really
happen here in a big way until after Satisfaction.

My dad liked Frank Sinatra singing Lennon/McCartney or Harrison, and
eventuially admitted that he thought the Beatles were good
songwriters. He liked the quieter songs on the Moody's Days of Future
Passed. He described King Crimson & Gentle Giant as "random"
sounding.

And as the Headz all know....there's only 2 kinds of music! The kind
you like & the kind you don't.
