1939 – The Dinah Shore Show begins airing on NBC radio.
1940 – Columbia Records cuts the price of their 12” classical records
from the standard $1.00 price. RCA follows.
1956 – Marty Robbins releases his single, “I Can’t Quit (I’ve Gone Too
Far)” b/w “Singing The Blues.”
1956 – Filming begins on the Alan Freed movie, Rock! Rock! Rock!
1960 – John, Paul and George visit the Casbah Club and see The
Blackjacks, with drummer Pete Best. Following their set, the three
Beatles invite Best to join their group.
1960 – Chubby Checker sings and debuts the dance "The Twist" on
American Bandstand.
1964 – Rod Stewart makes his television debut on BBC-TV's The Beat
Room, singing with The Hoochie Coochie Men.
