1947 – The first ever country music show takes place at Carnegie Hall,
with Ernest Tubb and Roy Acuff headlining.
1955 – The weekly variety program Toast Of The Town is re-named The Ed
Sullivan Show after its host.
1956 – A fight breaks out during a Fats Domino concert at the U.S.
Naval Station in Newport, Rhode Island, causing a ban on further rock
shows.
1957 – The Big Record, CBS’s answer to American Bandstand, debuts with
host Patti Page. The show lasts one season.
1960 – Frankie Avalon turns 21 and collects over $600,000 in royalties
he earned as a minor.
1962 – Dee Dee Sharp records “Ride!” at Cameo Parkway Studios in
Philadelphia.
1964 – The Beatles play one show at Memorial Auditorium in Dallas:
their only visit to the city.
1965 – Connie Smith joins the Grand Ole Opry.

1967 – Filming continues on The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour at the
Raymond Revuebar, a Soho striptease club. Also sharing the stage with

1968 – The Beatles record the backing track for “Birthday” in 20
takes, after which they take a break and go to Paul’s house to watch
The Girl Can’t Help It on television. After the movie, they return to
the studio and overdub the vocals.
1969 – Tiny Tim announces his engagement to Miss Vicki Budinger on The
Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Carson invites him to get married
on the show.
1971 – Pink Floyd becomes the first rock act to perform at Montreux,
Switzerland's Classical Music Festival.
1971 – ABC-TV debuts Getting Together, starring Bobby Sherman and Wes
Stern as songwriters - based loosely on the lives of real songwriters
Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. It lasts 14 weeks.
1980 – A multimedia event, featuring Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell,
is held at the Paradise Club in Amsterdam to commemorate the 10th
anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s death.
1981 – While attempting to fly around the world in a single engine
Cessna airplane, Gary Numan and his pilot experience engine trouble
over India and land the plane, only to be arrested for spying and
smuggling.
1983 – To celebrate the release of their new album, Lick It Up, KISS
appears in public, on MTV, for the first time without their make-up.
1986 – Michael Jackson’s 3-D science fiction/fantasy film, Captain EO
- directed by Francis Ford Coppola - opens in Tomorrowland at
Disneyland.
1996 – Julian Lennon outbids several buyers at a Sotheby’s auction in
London, and spends £25,000 on Paul McCartney’s recording notes for
“Hey Jude,” and another £35,000 on various items that belonged to his

2006 – Echo and The Bunnymen singer Ian McCulloch is convicted of
breach of the peace by shouting, swearing and threatening Gary Duncan
and his girlfriend, Juliet Sebley, backstage at Glasgow Barrowlands in
Scotland, after McCulloch found two fans in his private bathroom.
2006 – Willie Nelson's tour bus is stopped near Lafayette, Louisiana,
and Nelson, along with four members of his band, are arrested for
possession of marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms.
2007 – Entertainment management company, The Firm, drops client
Brittany Spears after only one month because of her erratic lifestyle.
2009 – Leonard Cohen collapses on stage during a concert in Valencia,
