Lynyrd Skynyrd's lead vocalist *Ronnie VanZandt*, guitarist/vocalist *Steve 
Gaines*, backing vocalist *Cassie Gaines* (Steve's older sister), and 
assistant road manager *Dean Kilpatrick *all perish in a plane crash. Both 
pilot & copilot are also killed. The Convair CV-300 (a converted CV-240) 
chartered by the rock band from L&J Co. of Addison, Texas, ran out of fuel 
(1977).
