1957 – Alan Freed’s Biggest Show Of Stars 1957 tour plays the
Paramount Theater in Portland, Oregon, featuring Fats Domino, Buddy
Holly and The Crickets, Chuck Berry, The Everly Brothers, Eddie
Cochran, Paul Anka, The Drifters and others.
1961 – Chubby Checker appears on The Ed Sullivan Show, performing a
medley of his hits “The Twist” and “Let’s Twist Again.”
1963 – 24-year old Kenny Rogers marries his third wife, Margo
Anderson.
1964 – Mod rockers The High Numbers fail their audition with EMI.
Within the year they will sign with Brunswick Records as The Who.
1965 – The Kingston Trio guest star as themselves on "The Duel"
episode of NBC-TV's World War II drama, Convoy.
1966 – The Beach Boys’ “Good Vibrations” hits the Billboard Hot 100 at

1967 – Lulu appears on The Ed Sullivan Show, performing “To Sir With

1969 – Paul McCartney issues a statement saying he’s not dead, and
calls the rumor “rubbish.”
1971 – Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple play Madison Square Garden’s Felt
Forum theater.
1975 – After nearly 20 years, a judge rules that Hank Williams’
marriage to Billie Jean Eshliman was valid, and that she is entitled
to half of his past and future royalties. Following Williams’ death in
1953, there was speculation whether their marriage was legal because
Billie Jean’s divorce from her first husband was not yet finalized.
1979 – The Pretenders appear at the Marquee Club in London.
1988 – Elton John sells out his show at Madison Square Garden and sets
a venue record of 26 sell outs.
1990 – The band Mookie Blalock - soon to become Pearl Jam - makes
