1977 – EMI issues a statement explaining the reason for dropping The
Sex Pistols, saying they were unable to promote the group’s records in
view of the adverse publicity generated over the past two months.
1977 – The Police - Sting, Andy Summers, Stuart Copeland and Henri
Padovani - hold their first rehearsal at drummer Copeland's London
flat.
1979 – Drummer Aynsley Dunbar replaces Johnny Barbata in Jefferson
Starship.
1983 – Frank Zappa begins recording with the London Symphony
Orchestra, spending $300,000 of his own money to do so.
1991 – Johnny Paycheck is released from prison after serving only two
years of a seven-year sentence for a barroom shooting.
1992 – Bob Geldof is arrested and removed from a Boeing 727 which has
been grounded for 5 hours at Stansted Airport when passengers start to
complain about the wait. Despite the fact that all the passengers are
rebelling, only Geldof is arrested and taken away. Geldof is later
released and no charges are filed.
1993 – Cream reunites and performs at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
induction concert in L.A. A reunited Creedence Clearwater Revival is
also scheduled to perform, but John Fogerty refuses to take the stage
with the other members, causing a huge fiasco. Also, Van Morrison
chooses not to attend, forcing the cancellation of his set.
1996 – AC/DC plays the first night of their Ballbreaker World Tour at
the Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina.
2001 – A British Airways stewardess files a complaint with the
airlines after Oasis singer Liam Gallagher grabs her bottom, refuses
to stop smoking and throwing objects around the cabin during a flight
from London to Rio de Janeiro.
2005 – Liverpool's Strawberry Fields orphanage announces they are
closing their doors for good.
2007 – Singer Toni Braxton files a lawsuit in U.S District Court in
Manhattan against her former manager Barry Hankerson for $10 million,
alleging "fraud, deception and double dealing" and using "double-talk"
to compromise the relationship between Braxton and her former
recording label, Arista Records.
2009 – A 1979 full-frontal black and white nude photo of 20-year old,
pre-fame Madonna sells at a Christie’s auction for $37,500.
2010 – Shakin' Stevens is found guilty of hitting a press photographer
with a microphone stand during a concert at a hotel in Ballymena, and
is fined £300 for assault and criminal damage, and £479 to compensate
for his damaged camera lens.
