1955 – New York City radio station WNEW-AM announces the winners of

1957 – 5,000 fans greet Bill Haley when he arrives from New York on

1967 – The British tabloid News Of The World runs an article called
"Pop Stars and Drugs – Facts that Will Shock You." In it, everyone
from The Moody Blues to Pete Townshend is labeled as an LSD user, and
Mick Jagger is said to be hooked on Benzedrine and hashish. Jagger
immediately slaps the tabloid with a defamation lawsuit that very day.
The suit ignites a feud between the tabloid and the band that will
last for years.
1967 – The Beatles begin filming their video for “Penny Lane” - riding
horses and walking around Angel Lane in London.
1970 – David Bowie records four songs at the BBC Paris Cinema in
London for the John Peel Sunday Concert radio show with guitarist Mick
Ronson: his first appearance with Bowie.
1971 – Black Sabbath begins recording their third album, Master Of
Reality, at Island Studios in London.
1972 – Paul Simon releases his single, “Mother And Child Reunion” b/w

image in Internet history after her Super Bowl appearance with Justin
Timberlake.
2006 – Stevie Wonder, Joss Stone, and The Four Tops perform at the pre-

National Anthem, and The Rolling Stones are the halftime entertainment
at Super Bowl XL in Detroit, Michigan.
2007 – Producer Phil Spector wins $900,000 in his embezzlement lawsuit
against former assistant Michelle Blaine after being charged with
removing $425,000 from his pension and not repaying a $635,000 loan.
Blaine claimed the loan was a gift, and the pension funds were for a
film aimed at improving Spector's image. As part of the settlement,
she also drops a counter-claim of sexual harassment.
2008 – Amy Winehouse is detained by police and questioned about a
video of her that surfaced on the Internet showing her smoking crack
cocaine.
2008 – Sometime guru for The Beatles and The Beach Boys, Maharishi
Mahesh Yogi passes away in his sleep at age 91.
2012 – Kelly Clarkson sings “The Star Spangled Banner,” and Madonna,
along with M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj, performs the halftime show at Super
Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.
