1955 – New York's Coral Records hires DJ Alan Freed as their A&R man,
and gives him license to sign and record acts under his own name.
1955 – Johnny Cash has his first formal recording session at Sun
Records, recording four songs, including “Hey Porter,” backed by The
Tennessee Two, Luther Perkins and Marshall Grant.
1956 – Carl Perkins is severely injured - and his brother, Jay, is
killed - in a car crash on the way to New York to appear on The Perry
Como Show.
1956 – Mr. Wonderful opens on Broadway, and makes Sammy Davis, Jr. a
star.
1957 – Elvis Presley releases his single, “All Shook Up” b/w “That’s
When The Heartaches Begin.”
1958 – Eight-year old Hank Williams, Jr. makes his stage debut in
Swainsboro, Georgia.

1967 – Elvis Presley begins filming his 25th movie, Clambake, on the
same day his 23rd movie, Easy Come, Easy Go is released in theaters.
To coincide with the film’s release, Elvis releases his six-song Easy
Come, Easy Go EP, featuring “The Love Machine,” “Yoga Is As Yoga
Does,” “You Gotta Stop,” “Sing You Children” and “I’ll Take Love,” as
well as the title track.
1967 – The Who make their U.S. stage debut at the Paramount Theater in
New York City.
1967 – The Jimi Hendrix Experience appears at the Guildhall in
Southampton.
1971 – The entire Allman Brothers Band is arrested at a truck stop in
Jackson, Alabama, for possession of marijuana and heroin.

2004 – A new book by Allan Morrison claims that Elvis Presley's
ancestors came from a small village called Lonmay in the North East of
Scotland, saying he found evidence that Elvis's great-great-great-
great-great-great grandfather was married in the village 300 years
ago.
2006 – Aerosmith cancels the remainder of their Rockin’ The Joint Tour
so Steven Tyler can undergo throat surgery.
