1960 – The Silver Beetles make their second appearance at the
Grosvenor Ballroom in Wallasey, with Gerry and The Pacemakers opening
for the group for the first time.
1960 – The RIAA gives Bing Crosby a special platinum record to signify
career sales of 200 million records, which include his 125 albums and
2,600 singles.
1960 – Tony Williams quits The Platters for a solo career.
1962 – The Beatles - with Pete Best on drums - have their first demo/
recording session at EMI Studios in London, where they record "Besame
Mucho," "Love Me Do," "P.S. I Love You" and "Ask Me Why." Producer
George Martin is not too impressed.
1964 – An anonymous ad taken out in six American music trade papers
reads: "In the public interest, watch The Rolling Stones crush The
Beatles!"
1965 – Herman's Hermits appear on The Ed Sullivan Show, performing
"Mrs. Brown, You've Got A Lovely Daughter," "I'm Henry The VIII, I Am"
and “Wonderful World.” Other musical guests include Tommy Steele,
Roberta Peters and Trini Lopez.
1965 – The Rolling Stones release their single, "(I Can't Get No)
Satisfaction" b/w "The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man" in
the U.S.
1966 – While Roy Orbison and his wife Claudette are riding their
motorcycles home from Bristol, Tennessee, Claudette is struck by a
semi-trailer truck and dies instantly.
1967 – Simon and Garfunkel record "Fakin' It" in New York City.
1969 – Rod Stewart signs a solo recording contract with Mercury
Records.
1970 – Syd Barrett makes his first appearance after leaving Pink Floyd
at the Extravaganza Music and Fashion Festival in London. During his
fourth song, he takes off his guitar and walks off stage, ending the
show.
1971 – John Lennon and Yoko Ono sit in and jam with Frank Zappa and
The Mothers of Invention at Fillmore East. The show is recorded for

1992 – David Bowie and his wife, Iman, renew their marriage vows at
the American Church of St. James in Florence, Italy, when questions

1993 – The Velvet Underground reunites for the first time in 24 years
for a show at Wembley Arena in London.
1993 – The Broadway play of The Who's Tommy wins five Tony Awards at

2001 – Elton John auctions off 20 of his luxury automobiles for $2.75

2005 – The jury in the Michael Jackson child molestation case begins
it first day of deliberations.
2007 – Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown secretly marries film producer
