1949 – *Billboard* magazine changes the name of its country music hit
parade from *Hillbilly* Music Chart to Country & Western.
1957 – After several successful concerts and dance contests, Egypt bans
rock and roll from public places and from being mentioned in the press,
deeming it "an imperialist plot" and citing it as a prime example of
"Western degeneracy."
1961 – Elvis Presley records "(Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame," “Little
Sister,” "Kiss Me Quick," “That’s Someone You Never Forget” and “I’m Yours”
at RCA Studios in Nashville.
1964 – In the midst of the British invasion in America, Roy Orbison goes to
#1 on the charts in England with "It's Over."
1965 – Eddy Arnold records "Make The World Go Away" at RCA Studios in
Nashville.
1966 – Beach Boys Summer Spectacular takes place at the Hollywood Bowl,
featuring The Byrds, Love, Captain Beefheart, The Lovin' Spoonful, Percy
Sledge, and headliners The Beach Boys.
1966 – Jackie Wilson performs at a nightclub in Port Arthur, Texas, and his
show is so explosive and stirring that he is arrested after the show for

1993 – The first day of the Glastonbury Festival takes place in Pilton,

1994 – On the second night of the Glastonbury Festival, a man opens fire
with a .45 semi-automatic near one of the stages during a drug deal,
injuring five people who are taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath. A
couple hours after the shootings, a man dies of a drug overdose: the first
in the festival’s 24 year history.
1995 – Pearl Jam cancels the last remaining seven dates of their tour due
to their ongoing conflict with Ticketmaster.
2001 – The Grand Ole Opry's Ryman Auditorium is declared a National
Historic Landmark.
2003 – Boston guitarist and leader *Tom Scholz* *sues* his *label*, Artemis
Records, for more than $4 million for not promoting the band's latest

2004 – Rapper DMX (aka Earl Simmons) is arrested with another man for
