1959 – The Coasters record "Poison Ivy" at Atlantic Recording Studios in 
New York City.

1960 – Hank Ballard and The Midnighters' "Finger Poppin' Time," "Let's Go, 
Let's Go, Let's Go," and his original version of "The Twist" are all on 
Billboard's Hot 100: the first time any act has had three charting records 
simultaneously.

1962 – Freddy Cannon performs “Palisades Park” on American Bandstand.

1962 – The Beach Boys sign with Capitol Records.

passes away at age 81 while vacationing in Rhode Island.

1993 – The first of the three-day Phoenix Festival takes place in England.

Julian Cope, Pop Will Eat Itself, Radiohead, Living Colour, Manic Street

1994 – At the 20th anniversary celebration of the Stone Pony bar in Asbury

1999 – The Lilith Fair concert tour plays the Coors Amphitheatre in San 
Diego, featuring performances by Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, The Dixie 
Chicks, Luscious Jackson, Cibo Matto, Mya, Beth Orton, Murmurs, Shelley 
Doty X-Tet, Tekla and others.

2000 – The Corrs present a petition to the European Commission demanding 
legislation to end piracy on the Internet. Members of Manic Street 
Preachers and The Spice Girls also add their names to the petition.

2003 – Influential Baltimore DJ and television dance show host Winston 
“Buddy” Deane, 78, suffers a massive stroke and passes away in Pine Bluff, 
Arkansas. The Buddy Deane Show began airing in 1957 for two and a half 
hours a day, six days a week, and was in direct competition with American 
Bandstand, with Bandstand being “blacked out” in the Baltimore area in 
preference of Deane’s show. Artists appearing on Deane’s show were 
forbidden to appear on Bandstand, however, artists that appeared on 
Bandstand were allowed to appear on Deane’s show. Movie director John 
Waters used The Buddy Deane Show as the template for “The Corny Collins 
Show” in his movie Hairspray.

2003 – Courtney Love joins forces with Japanese publisher Tokyopop for a 
comic based on her life.

2005 – The Vocal Group Hall of Fame inducts its seventh annual group of 
honorees in Wildwood, New Jersey, including The Angels, The Brooklyn 
Bridge, The Chiffons, The Chi-Lites, The Del-Vikings, Fleetwood Mac, The 
Hilltoppers, The Mel-Tones, The Neville Brothers, The Pointer Sisters, The 
Rascals, The Righteous Brothers, The Sons of the Pioneers, and The Tymes.

2007 – The White Stripes play the shortest live “concert” in history at 
George Street, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, when Jack White plays a 
single C# note accompanied by a single bass drum/crash cymbal hit from Meg, 
after which Jack announces, "We have now officially played in every 
province and territory in Canada," before walking off stage. Later in the 
evening, the Stripes play a full show in St John's.

2007 – In the early morning hours of the day, three masked men, carrying 
sledgehammers and crowbars, break into the Cheshire home of former Atomic 
Kitten singer Kerry Katona, hold a knife to her neck, and escape with the 
singer's BMW M5 sports car, two laptops, two gaming machines and two 
televisions.

2009 – Staging for a Madonna concert at Velodrome Stadium in Marseille 
collapses, killing two workers and injuring six others. Technicians were 
setting up the stage when the partially-built roof fell in, bringing down a 
crane.

2009 – Amy Winehouse is granted a divorce from husband Blake Fielder-Civil 
in London's High Court.

2012 – Singer Kay Perry’s divorce from actor Russell Brand becomes 
finalized.
