The Who as opening act. Following the show, Keith Moon, who is celebrating 
his 21st birthday, accidently drives a Lincoln Continental into the Holiday 
Inn swimming pool.

1967 – Joni Mitchell makes her UK stage debut opening for The Piccadilly 
Line at the Marquee Club in London.

1968 – The Jimi Hendrix Experience appears at the Singer Bowl in Flushing 
Meadow Park, New York, with opening acts Soft Machine and Big Brother and 
The Holding Company.

1969 – Ibex, featuring vocalist Freddie Bulsara - soon to become Freddie 
Mercury - appear at the Bolton Octagon Theatre in Bolton, Lancashire.

1970 – The Velvet Underground, performing at Max’s Kansas City in New York 
during their nine-week summer engagement, are recorded during their set by 
Andy Warhol associate Bridgid Polk, who records the show on a portable 
cassette tape player. The recording will be released on album as Live At 
Max’s Kansas City in 1972.

1971 – Led Zeppelin performs at the Tarrant County Convention Center in 
Fort Worth, Texas.

1974 – John Lennon claims to have seen a UFO, as noted in the liner notes 
on his Walls And Bridges album: “On the 23rd August 1974 at 9 o'clock I saw 
a U.F.O. – J.L.”

1975 – Joy Division’s Ian Curtis marries Deborah Woodruff. They remain 
married until his suicide in 1980.

1977 – Linda Ronstadt releases her single, “Blue Bayou” b/w “Old Paint” on

1980 – The Heatwave Festival takes place in Mosport Park near Toronto,

1987 – A 20th anniversary "Summer Of Love" concert headlined by the 
Grateful Dead at Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angel Camp, California, 
goes horribly wrong when an armed escaped felon, wandering in the crowd, 
shoots a pursuing police officer while trying to escape. Police shoot back 
and kill the man.

1989 – The Cars’ Ric Ocasek marries his second wife, Czech model and 
actress Paulina Porizkova. They are still married.

1991 – The three-day Reading Festival begins at Little John’s Farm in 
England. Artists appearing during the festival include Nirvana, Iggy Pop,
