1894 – The monthly publication, Billboard Advertising, is founded in
Cincinnati by William H. Donaldson and James Hennegan, focusing on
billboard advertising.
1954 – Billboard magazine ranks Elvis Presley at #8 on their list of the
Most Promising New Hillbilly or Country Singers.
1955 – The Famous Flames, featuring singer James Brown, record a demo of
"Please, Please, Please" at radio station WIBB in Macon, Georgia.
1956 – Elvis Presley buys a new Harley Davidson motorcycle and spends the
day riding round Memphis with actress Natalie Wood.
1957 – Alan Freed’s Biggest Show Of Stars ’57 package tour enters its third
and final month on the road with a show at the Arena Auditorium in Denver,
